St Paul's Cathedral is being enlivened by an artistic procession of donkeys. The models are part of an exhibition from Cairo called Caravan and were painted by Egyptian and European artists. The donkey is a symbol of peace for Muslims and Christians.
And I saw these on a D.I.Y blog and would just love to have a go at creating some myself. We have a flight of stairs up to an attic room which is just full of crap. But I've love to make it into some sort of Aladdin's cave, and these stairs going up to it would be perfect.
I love the donkeys, but I didn't know they were a symbol of peace, and those stairs are just stunning!
ReplyDeleteThere would be a 100% chance that I would tall down that mirrored staircase.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those donkeys!! Maybe, in part, because we use to have donkeys - but I like the whole idea behind the exhibit.
ReplyDeleteLove the donkeys! Painting animal sculptures for charity is popular here in Canada too. Edmonton did bison, Calgary did cows, Vancouver did orcas and Winnipeg did bears. Some other city did moose but that didn't work well because those big antlers kept breaking off.
ReplyDeleteI'd be curious to know what those donkeys are made of? Plaster, maybe? You could come up with your own symbol and totally do it, I know you could!
ReplyDeleteThe stairs... WOW! I don't have any stairs, but those are cool, although way too fancy for anything in my house. I KNOW you could do that!
I totally cannot picture anything as flamboyant as that in St. Paul's!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what wonderful images. Next to hedgehogs donkeys rate pretty highly on my cute animals list.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I didn't know they were Christian and Muslim symbols
ReplyDeletePoor donkeys all have their heads own...
ReplyDeleteLove the montage pieces on them tho- especially the white one.
Mirror mosiacs look like a dangerous hobby- so watch out for the glass!
I got some cheap stained glass markers n plastic butterflies at Micheals this week to play with
Those donkeys are so cool. We had a series of painted moose here that were just incredible. Those staircases are definitely unique. I'd need my shades to go up them. :)
